What is a Global Citizen?

Brian kissmanA global citizen celebrates different people of different cultures.
A global citizen cares for others and respects differences.
A global citizen protects the environment for future generations.
A global citizen is socially responsible.
A global citizen has perspective and empathy.

Wikipedia defines Global Citizenship as the idea that all people have rights and civic responsibilities that come with being a member of the world, with whole-world philosophy and sensibilities, rather than as a citizen of a particular nation or place.

At New York Academy, we have made Global Citizenship one of our School-Wide Learning Outcomes. We see Global Citizenship as a learning value, which we connect to the knowledge, understandings, and skills we learn across all subject areas.

Our vision sees New York Academy students growing to expound upon what it means to be a Global Citizen and how it connects to who they are as a lifelong learner.
